Trading Card Games

What TCG's Do You Do?

The Pokémon Trading Card Game (TCG) is a card game where players collect cards, build decks, and battle other players. The cards are made up of Characters, Items and Pokemon from the Anime series and games. Here are some basics to get you started:

  • How to play

A turn has three parts: draw, action, and attack. Players draw a card from their deck, then choose an action, such as playing a basic Pokémon, evolving a Pokémon, or attaching an energy card. Players can have up to six Pokémon in play, one in the Active Spot and the other five on the Bench. To win, players must knock out the opposing Pokémon by dealing enough damage to its HP.

  • Starter decks

Players can choose their starter deck in the free Pokémon TCG Pocket app. The starter deck is determined by the first Booster Pack a player opens.

  • Tournament circuit

The Pokémon TCG has a thriving tournament circuit with regional championships and events around the world.

How many cards do you need to play Pokémon TCG?

Each player has a deck of exactly 60 cards, consisting of Pokémon cards, energy cards, item cards and trainer cards.

Other than energy cards, you can’t have more than four copies of a card in your deck with the same name.

When you're first learning how to play the Pokémon TCG, it's best to pick up one of the pre-built decks available for the trading card game. Once you know the basics, you can learn how to build a deck to include all your favourite Pokémon and customise your play style.
